Welcome Back! We've enjoyed a wonderful three days to adjust back to school.
Thank you for sending your children so well prepared for 2nd grade.

This week our class has been joining Ms. Lubic's class to learn about having a growth mindset. Many stories and videos were shared. Students have been working on their self portraits and writing about how they are unique. We've also discussed things we CAN already do and things they can't do YET, but with perseverance we will get there.

Our first five days of math this year are also focused on having a growth mindset. It is important to persevere when math gets tough. Our brain grows stronger when we make mistakes and stick with it to find a solution. We are using a youcubed's Week of Inspirational Math lessons. https://www.youcubed.org

Mr. DiNicola and Mrs. Townsend dropped by to discuss our 3 re-worded school-wide expectations. We met for a whole school assembly on Friday.

Reading and Writing Workshop began right away. Each day we begin with a Core Reading and Writing Idea/Goal. The goal tells us something that "Gook Readers and Writers Do". We then learn about the skill during a mini-lesson and then try it in our own reading and writing. 

I hope you had a wonderful Labor Day! The weather was beautiful. Book orders are due tomorrow. Please remember our early release on Tuesday. Hope that you can stop in with your child to visit our classroom on Thursday night for our "Back to School Night and barbecue. Our classroom is in need of wipes. Our Table Cleaner uses them each day to clean our tables. Please let me know if you are able to donate some for our classroom.
