Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!
We have another exciting week planned. This week we are beginning a few new units. During Writing Workshop we will be writing poetry. We will be reading several biographies during Reading Workshop and taking notes about the people we are reading about. Our new Fundations skill is ai and ay. Ask your child when each should be used.

Math on a number line
We're solving Presents and Parcel Story Problems. Students are deciding which
method to use as they solve double digit equations.
Mrs. Nelson has been joining the 2nd graders for WIN time. For a few weeks we will be teaming up to learn about kindness, including others, being allies and up-standers. We've been discussing social situations, reading great books, and creating "You Skills" newspapers and shields to share our learning.

How are rocks used outside? Hmm blacktop, gravel, cement, sidewalks, bricks, sandbox,
boulders... what else did you find?
How is sandpaper made? Why is it useful? Are there different types?
Guess who earned the Golden Paintbrush Award??
Today's snowfall reminded me that students need to come to school with appropriate outdoor gear.  We go outside every day unless it is raining or below zero.  Once there is snow on the ground, children need to have snow-pants, boots, hats and gloves. If they wear boots to school, they should back an extra, dry pair of shoes for the classroom. They are welcome to leave a pair at school it that is helpful.

Please continue to send in items for Fluffy our guinea pig. His bedding is changed weekly, so we need shredded paper and newspaper to line the cage. Fluffy loves carrots, celery, cucumber, lettuce and water melon. Please consider sending in your peelings/scraps for a treat. He/she also loves hay. Does anyone have access to hay?
