Welcome back to our blog. It was wonderful to meet so many of you at our Back to School Night. Our class is really starting to get comfortable with each other and many new routines. I am proud of their flexibility. They have made many great choices by following our school-wide expectations: Take care of yourself, Take care of others, and Take care of this place. We have earned enough pennies to fill our penny jar.
Our first celebration will be tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 16th. Students may wear pajamas and bring one stuffed animal to school with them. Please also remember that Tuesday is Picture Day. Everyone will have their photo taken. These pictures are used for our classroom photograph. You may send in order forms on Monday or Tuesday.
Below are a few photos from the last two weeks.

Friday Free Choice Fun
First grade writers have been busy, busy, busy. They have been practicing lower case letter formation. Each letter should be made a certain way. Always start your letters at the top. They have also been writing small moment stories. They touch and tell their stories on the pages and then write them. |
Butterfly release
During Poetry Center we learned the September Chicken Soup with Rice poem.
Butterfly life cycle books
The 1st graders graphed their favorite popsicle flavors. We also counted using popsicle sticks for tally marks.
The Hungry Caterpillar number story and equations.
Solving story problems on our whiteboards.
During Reading Workshop we are learning to take a "Sneak Peek" before we read a book. We make predictions about what may happen in the story. We also practiced choosing a "Just Right" book, and being a good reading partner.
Friday was Fire Safety Day!
We are decorating monarch butterflies to decorate our classroom.
Second Grade Writers have started our first writing unit: Small Moment Personal Narratives (stories from our lives!) We are still establishing routines and building stamina as writers. Planning our writing is an important first step. They are learning to orally rehearse our stories with a partner.
Here are the writing skills we have been developing.
We are also embedding review of spelling skills and handwriting.
Mentor texts:
Have a great week!
