Little books, Big Books - READ READ READ
Please continue to have your child read at home and fill out the reading log. Also, don't forget to check your child's work on Seesaw.
Our class earned another celebration. Last Friday we enjoyed a movie and popcorn. The original version of Charlotte's Web is such a treat.
Our October calendar shows many ways to represent a number. We have been coming up with equations and story problems to match.
This week we had our 4th Second Step social skills lesson. So far we have been learning to Focus our Attention, Listen with our "brain in", Use positive Self-Talk to yourself, and Be Assertive by using a clear, loud enough voice and looking the person in the eye with confidence.
Busy 2nd Grade Writers
Mrs. Spellman reports that 1st Grade writers are:
In word study, we are learning about when to use bonus letters at the end of a one-syllable word, if the word has one vowel that is short, and immediately followed by f, l, or s at the end, then we double the consonant. The extra f, l, s is considered a bonus letter because it does not make a sound, it is extra. We mark the bonus letter with a star.
In writing first graders are working to fix up and fancy up their best work! We are working to revise, or add on, to our work to make sure our stories come to life. We are also working on editing our work. Editing is when we go back and fix our writing to make it easier to read. We are using our narrative writing and editing checklists as guides.
First Grade math students are hard at work.
Working hard during Reading Workshop and Literacy Centers
The Halloween Parade will be on Thursday. Your child may come to school with most of their costume on and ready. They will remove the bulk of their costumes after the parade.
