Happy November! Between Halloween and some crazy weather, we've had quite a week.
Students looked great for our Halloween Parade. Pumpkin Man made another special visit and left us with some important messages.

First Graders were busy mathematicians this week. Here are photos of then playing three new games. The first one is called DROP THE BEANS. For this game students drop 10 two-colored beans. Then they write an equation for their results.
This game is called MAKE THE SUM. For this game students draw cards one at a time. They add cards together to make the target sum. If they can make the sum they will keep the cards.
These students are playing DOUBLE IT or DOUBLE PLUS OR MINUS ONE. They roll a die and double the number. Then put a penguin on that number on the game board.

Second Graders are very excited to be publishing their Small Moment narrative stories. They chose a story to edit and create a special cover for. They will have a celebration and share their stories next week. Look for their super stories on SeeSaw coming soon.
First graders continued to practice spelling skills and snap words. They will also share their published stories next week.
We are continuing to learn all about the properties of Matter. Here are some of the terms we've learned.
Mr. Miller is adding a special engineering experience to our unit. Students worked with partners as engineers. Their first job was to come up with a team name. Then they were given index cards and asked to build the tallest tower they could.
Mr. Miller had read Rosie Revere Engineer.

Below are examples of their team names.
Time to start experimenting. Gravity wants our cards to fall. Measure your tower's height with Unifix Cubes.
Mr. Miller discussed how engineers sometimes persevere. They often adapt their plans and try new ideas. They think outside of the box.
Could we do something to make the cards stronger?
Could bending the cards make them stronger?
Mr. Miller gave a new challenge. The students needed to make a bring across the bin with only two pieces of paper. A lego man should be able to stand on it.
We can't wait to see next week's engineering challenge. Thank you Mr. Miller.
 Happy Halloween!
Ms. Lubic and I are Charlotte from Charlotte's Web. We both recently read the well-known chapter book to our classes.
Check out these cuties.
