 Happy First Day of School!

Math time fun on Day 1
Check out these great students! Some are a bit shy but so sweet.
We are so excited to have monarch caterpillars in our classroom. We are working like scientists and drawing them in many life cycle stages.

Fun with math manipulatives during our first week in school.
Each student has a Poetry Notebook. We added a poem about how Q and U are always together.
We are making self portraits.
We are counting with tally marks.
Friday Free Choice fun!
We are practicing Fundations Trick Words (the, and, is, a, of, his) on our whiteboards.
Our Reading Workshop begins with familiar Nursery Rhymes. These are added to poetry notebooks. Students circle the words they can read.
Math game: Flip and Write - we are flipping cards and tracing the correct numbers. This helps with number recognition and formation.
We are practicing Whole Body Listening - (Ears listening, Brain thinking, Eyes looking, Hands empty, Feet still, Mouth quiet)
Reading more nursery rhymes
We read the Hungry Caterpillar and then created our own books.
We are reviewing letter formation for all lowercase letters. Once we have practiced them all students will be expected to form them correctly using an appropriate pencil grip. They have been working hard to make beautiful letters.
A few more photos from this week.
We are learning a being Avid Readers.
We are playing 10 and Some More
We are spelling Trick Words. All of our letters need to be formed correctly. Then we "Say the word, spell it, and say it again".
We are matching double 10 frames and 10 + equations.
Free Choice fun!
