The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson is a book about children who feel different from their peers and how they can find the courage to connect with others. The book features several children who feel uncomfortable at school because of their differences, such as a boy who moved from Venezuela and is laughed at for his accent, a girl who is self-conscious about her lunch, and a boy who doesn't feel like he's good enough to play sports.

Big books are now a part of our literacy centers.

This month we have little October calendar books. Students are writing in the days, keeping track of # of days in school, and representing that number in many ways.

We are continuing to write Small Moment Narratives.

We are learning about doubles. Memorizing the doubles facts makes solving many math equations more efficient. We also played "Spin and Add" and "Spin and Subtract" this week.
