hope you enjoyed the long Columbus Day weekend. This weekend the weather was cool, but the foliage is beautiful. I enjoyed a football game under the lights at CVU on Friday, and today the Buccaneer Cheerleaders (which I coach) cheered on the walkers at the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" event. It was wonderful.
Below are several recent photos our our class in action. Please share the blog with your child and ask them about their learning.
A great turtle shell and nursery rhyme to share
Time to turn and talk about what we are learning.

Mrs. Nelson begins You Skills with our class

Our class recently began a Sound and Light unit. We have been experimenting with how sound is made. What happens to the rubber-band when you pluck it? It vibrates. Vibration is quick back and forth motion that produces sound. How can you make the sound stop? Ask your child?
Here is our table fiddle. This is a great way to watch the string vibrate.
Now we are making our own book fiddles.
Sharing a fire fighter book and art project. Thanks for teaching about city and country fire houses.

This week we will begin a new Fundations Unit. The unit covers the word families with an, am and all. This is only a one week unit. New trick words will be sent home in the homework packet. We are practicing fact families in math. Our science unit continues with more exploration of sound. Students are writing about their learning in a science notebook. On Friday we will have our second 4-Winds science lesson.
Next Wednesday we will celebrate Fire Safety Day. On Friday we will have our Halloween parade and party. Colleen Boyce is helping to arrange our class party. Students should arrive at school dressed in all or most of their costumes because the parade takes place right and our party is following the parade. In the days following Halloween, please do not send candy as a snack. Students will be asked to save treats for later and eat a healthy snack during snack time. Thank you.
