Happy March!
Our class was excited to meet author Tracey West when she Skyped in for a visit. Tracey has written many popular children's book series including Pixie Tricks, Pokemon, and Dragon Masters.
This week we read the book Those Shoes by Maribeth Boelts. This book teaches the difference between WANTS and NEEDS. Here is the book's description: All Jeremy wants is a pair of those shoes, the ones everyone at school seems to be wearing. Though Jeremy’s grandma says they don’t have room for "want," just "need," when his old shoes fall apart at school, he is more determined than ever to have those shoes, even a thrift-shop pair that are much too small. But sore feet aren’t much fun, and Jeremy soon sees that the things he has — warm boots, a loving grandma, and the chance to help a friend — are worth more than the things he wants.
We continue to learn about sugaring to prepare us for our upcoming field trip. This week we focused on how syrup is made.
During 1st grade math we continue to use penguins to learn about pairs and odd and even numbers. We are also working on solving penguin problem solving.
We are also practicing number trees and fact families.
